HCI: Health Coalition Initiative

Health Coalition Initiative

Health Coalition Initiative

The Health Coalition Initiative is a network of voluntary health organisations and pharmaceutical companies which was founded ten years ago. Its first seminar in 1997 broke new ground when both partners worked together to produce a joint report on guidelines for partnerships between voluntary health organisations and the pharmaceutical industry.

In February 2005 using the same techniques together with membership surveys and small workshops the guidelines were revised and a new set of guidelines "A real experience model - a framework document for developing partnerships between vhos and the pharmaceutical industry" was launched in the House of Lords by Baroness Jill Pitkeathley.

HCI organises 3 to 4 workshops a year on topics of concern and interest to its members. it frequently partners with other organisations in running the workshops. The aim of the workshops is to provide an informal environment to meet colleagues and share experiences, and to learn about developments and identify common cause in a rapidly changing and developing NHS.

HCI has 10 pharmaceutical companies and 40 vhos in membership.

It has a small Steering Group drawn equally from vhos and the pharmaceutical industry. It has two Co Chairman - one from a patient group and one from a member company.

It has a part time organising secretary.
